Game Stack was a new collection of services that developers could use to build, host, publish and monetize games across PC, console and mobile platforms. But they faced an audience of developers that had grown highly comfortable with the services they were currently using, and they weren’t actively seeking other solutions. Prior to the Game Developer Conference, only 30% of developers in the gaming world were even aware of the existence of the platform, and many of them knew very little about its features.
People who build video games typically love gaming in general, and that extends to tabletop and role-playing games. So, we developed a card game that gamified building a video game. The GDC audience went crazy for it. All 4,500 copies were handed out with people begging via social to get their hands on one. By the end of the conference, 50% of the target audience were now aware of Game Stack and its capabilities.
